It's close to the Zero Milestone, isn't it? --G Clark | Talk 14:49, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Milestone is a few blocks north, at the same longitude as the Pier. — Eoghanacht talk 15:12, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not quite on the same meridian. GPS readings show the Zero Milestone was set about a foot off the meridian. --Spewey 18:27, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inscription obliterated?[edit]

There is an area on the current Jefferson Pier marker stone, immediately below the date and above the words "District of Columbia", where stone has been crudely chiseled away. The spacing of the other lines of text and the otherwise smooth surface of the stone indicate that something was once inscribed there. Does anyone know what it was? Scott Johnson 16:26, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to know that myself. I suspect that it was the name of some government official, surveyor, or contractor that was later deemed to be unsuitable for a surveying pier. — Joe Kress 00:34, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
