NOT a joint production between MBC and NHK[edit]

Jang Geum's Dream is NOT a joint production between MBC and NHK, and the article should not say so. Some Wikipedia users consistently disagree with this, but is there any source that says it is a joint production?

I have the season one DVD box sets, and there is something about MBC TV and NHK on it. I'm going to see if I can translated the Korean to English, then find about about citing this text. In the meantime, I've put a "cite needed" on the "joint production" sentence (before I pulled out my DVD boxes to check, as I was certain I had checked them before). MBC and NHK[edit]

Here is the text from the back of the DVD box:

Google translates this as:

Korean MBC TV, Japanese NHK TV dramas popular George Best animated film <Dae Jang Geum> subtitles support and a wealth of additional foreign language film

This doesn't actually say NHK participated in production.

The copyright on the front of the box is: © MBC · SONOKON · HEEWON

There's a Korean-translated press release[1] (Google English translation[2]) from a Japanese press release PDF[3].

The press release does not name NHK as a joint production company. At best, it lists production (製作) as "MBC, SONOGONG, HEEWON Entertainment" and animation studio (アニメーション制作) as "HEEWON Entertainment".

The head of the Japanese press release translates as:

As of December 21, 2005
NHK public relations office

Animation "Girl Changumu's Dream" broadcast decision!

I'm not disputing that it can have been a joint production, but I haven't been able to find anything confirming this.

Removing Joint Production Comment[edit]

There is no mention of a join production on [4] (NHK's staff page for the Japanese dubbed release of the series). It simply lists 製作 (production) as "MBC, SONOKONG, HEEWON Entertainment". If there's any disagreement, please cite a source for the joint production statement, since I can't find anything about it on the official Korean and Japanese sites for the series. --Christopher Fritz 21:20, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Naming Convention?[edit]

This page uses names such as "Seo Jang Geum", "Chweh Geum Yeong", and "Rhee Yeon Saeng", whereas the Dae Jang Geum page uses "Seo Jang-geum", "Choi Geum-yeong", and "Lee Yeon-saeng". I'm going to read up more on Wikipedia's Korean-related articles, but I'm under the impression that naming used on the Dae Jang Geum page is the more widely acceptable form of Romanized spelling. Unless there's a reason to use "Jang Geum" rather than "Jang-geum" (other than in the page title), I'll go ahead and change them all (sometime later, in case someone wants to voice against it first) to use the "Jang-geum" form.

I'm not sure about using "Lee" rather than "I" (or "Ih"), so I'll have to check into that as well. I think I might have seen a Wikipedia page on this [edit: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean)], so I'll have to look for it again, although I think it didn't go too deep into recommended guidelines. --Christopher Fritz 21:32, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also think that the latter ones("Seo Jang-geum", "Choi Geum-yeong", and so on...) are more appropriate.

About "Lee" and "I". In fact, the guideline for romanization of Korean name is still unstable. Now the institute responsible for the romanization of Korean(국립국어원) recommends "I", but "Lee" is much more conventional. -- Nerocyan (talk) 05:54, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
