Format[edit]

Can we make his bio similiar in format to Gen. Hagee's?

  • My vote is no. Too rigid and will not allow for explanation of events.--Looper5920 09:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anomalies[edit]

In the infobox, this page links to itself by way of Commandant of the Marine Corps. Ketsuban 19:47, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent section on "Effects of General James T. Conway's Iraq invasion"[edit]

While the links provided indicate that there is damage as a result of the war, there is no direct link to Conway, nor is this his invasion. This section is inappropriate for this article. Per WP:NOR, "Articles may not contain any new analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to advance a position not clearly advanced by the sources." — ERcheck (talk) 05:16, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Ranks or Promotions[edit]

Why isn't there a date of rank for each promotion for the General? Dumaka (talk) 21:04, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and decorations[edit]

Does anybody know what happened to his awards that he wore as a LieutenantGeneral, e.g. the Humanitarian Service Medal and that red-white-smallblackstripe-white-red foreign decoration? claudevsq (talk) 10:03, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

His Official photo in 2006 seems to be incomplete for some reason. He's missing those awards and a couple of devices in that image, but earlier and later photos show them (for example, the service star on the NUC is there in 2008, and in 2005). The Humanitarian Service Medal and unidentified foreign award you noticed in File:Gen James Terry Conway June 2005.jpg doesn't reappear in any later photo that I can find... maybe he was wearing them erroneously then? It's not unusual for foreign decorations to be approved for reciept but not for wear, perhaps he hadn't known he shouldn't be wearing it at the time. I've asked Dandvsp to help identify it. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 13:08, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! It also looks on that photo of him as a LtGen as if he had four service stars on his Navy Sea Service Deployment ribbon, although you can't see the fourth one, but take a look... It's the same as with Peter Pace: On the photo as BrigGen, he's got three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, and as a General, he's got only two anymore. Couldn't you still find out how many stars Mattis has got on his Iraq Campaign Medal? By the way, couldn't Conway have replaced his Humanitarian Service Medal through the ICM or the GWOTSM? claudevsq (talk) 15:47, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am taking off one oak leaf cluster in the ribbon graphic. please do not message me and tell me that my edit is considered vandalism. find one proof of evidence that the Marine has 2 Oak leaf clusters on his JMUA and you can put it back on. I've searched Official photo, retirement pictures and his official bios. Only one oak leaf cluster is visible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.246.207.200 (talk) 16:58, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Read the reference given in the prose. SecNav gave him one when he turned the post over to Amos. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 18:30, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BAHAMUT, you might need to read for yourself. "presented Conway with his third Defense Distinguished Service Medal during the change-in-command" he did not give him the Joint Meritorious Unit Award...he can't give that to an individual, it is a unit award. you don't get it at retirement, you get it if the "Joint" unit you are in is awarded one for a specific time period. I know, I have 2 myself. Gen Conway has 2. Please leave the graphic alone until you find a source that says the Marine has 2 JMUAs. Thank you.--137.246.207.200 (talk) 18:42, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I misread the edit summary on my watchlist. I thought that's the one you had modified. My mistake. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 11:47, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The unidentified foreign decoration is the Khalifyyeh Order of Bahrain, knight's degree, and is approved for wear. Claudevsq, 15 OCT 2014 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.154.216.92 (talk) 10:28, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

it appears Claudevsq is correct, it is the lowest degree of the Order of Bahrain (sometimes called the Khalifiyyeh {or similar transcription} Order of Bahrain - but not to be confused with "the Order of the Khalifa"), however, it's not automatically approved for wear, at least as far as the Marine Corps is concerend, i.e. it's not one of the ones listed in MCO P1020.34G, Section 5102 Precedence, subsection's 10 nor 13 on page's 5-8 & 5-9 (pgs.180–181 in the linked .pdf). Therefore it would require specific authorization for him for general wear. Perhap's he's not wearing it in later photo's because he never got authorization to wear it?
I'll be Bold and add the category, but I won't be adding the ribbon until/unless someone can find a source., cheers
