Bust of Major-General James Wilson[edit]

I suspect that the Bust of Major-General James Wilson at West Point portays General James H. Wilson, not General James J. Wilson. James H. was an important figure in the Civil War, and a major-general. James J. was a brigadier-general in the War of 1812, but never attained the rank of major-general.

Smithsonian Institution Research Information System (SIRIS) notes that the West Point bust was listed as "James J.", then changed to "James H.", but doesn't resolve the confusion.[1]

I'll leave things as they are on this page for now, but change it to James H. on the page for James E. Kelly (artist). == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 19:49, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The James Harrison Wilson Papers at the Library of Congress contain a 26-year correspondence between Major General James H. Wilson and "the sculptor James Edward Kelly." See Box 53. Although this is not absolutely definitive -- West Point doesn't seem to have a complete online list of its sculpture -- it does convince me that "James J." was a typo at SIRIS, and it always should have been "James H." == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 20:21, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
