Belcamp House[edit]

I believe Belcamp House, in Darndale, Dublin, Ireland, to have been designed by James Hoban. It was formerly the home of Sir Edward Newenham, who was, in the historical record, in correspondence with George Washington. It had, until recently, been adjoined to a school, Belcamp College, but the school closed recently, and the land was sold to a developer.

There is a circular room in the building believed to have been an early exercise in the same principles that led Hoban to include Oval rooms in the original designs for the White House. I'm recording it here, since it strikes me that it might be important to historians of Hoban's work, since there seem to be only seven extant buildings designed by Hoban, and because there is a possibility that Belcamp house could be in jeopardy from developers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.169.236 (talk) 17:24, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

It is known that Hoban owned at least three slaves who were employed as carpenters in the construction of the White House. Their names are recorded as "Ben, Daniel, and Peter" and appear in a James Hoban slave payroll.

What is the notability of this? It seems to be quoted like a criminal record. If so, I think we should be told the ground-rules. Valetude (talk) 12:53, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
