I worked for National Mattress Company from September 1975 to somewhere around 1985. I started at the Tyler, Texas factory (NaMaCo had 18 factories during that time)and over the years took transfers to factories in El Paso, Texas and Kansas City, Missouri and traveled many states around those areas. In 1978 I transferred from Kansas City into Albuquerque, New Mexico in the position of Sales Representative for the El Paso Factory. The only time I ever had the opportunity to speak with Mr. James F. Edwards was sometimes during my tenure in Albuquerque and this was by phone so I never got to meet him in person.
During this time I learned that Mr. Edwards started the Company in Huntington, West Virginia with their first factory in 1905. Mr. Edwards at one point owned a majority share of the Gillette Razor Company and he also had several Horse Race Tracks. Mr. Edwards was respected by the Company employees but since he was the sole owner, National Mattress Company pretty much was reduced to the original Huntington, West Virginia factory that I understand was purchased by some of his employees.
Mr. James F. Edwards had many employees that were with the Company for many decades. It was a great experience for me to have been associated with National Mattress Company.
It would be great to be able to contact some of the associates of that Company to retrieve more information to add to Wikipedia.
