To Djln - I note that you have reverted the re-ordering of the article to undo my edits in February. It seems to me that your recent edit summary contradicts what you have actually done. i.e. the opening paragraph should be a brief overdue of his life and achievements with the actual career history following in approximately chronological order.

You now have the contents half way through the article (rather like an American TV programme), whereas they ought to come straight after the first paragraph. I think that the opening paragraph should stop after the reference to winning the double in 1897 and the remainder of the second paragraph should be merged back into the career history.

Best wishes. Daemonic Kangaroo 17:31, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The opening paragraph should feature an overview of all his life. Your edits buried several of the key facts of his life and death, e.g. his early death, his heavy drinking and his status as a player at the bottom of the page. It is common practice for articles to feature on overview and then expand on the highlights with further sections. That way it encourages readers to read further. John or Jack?[edit]

Sorry for my ignorance, but why are John and Jack being used interchangeably throughout the article? Was he known by both names? Nehme1499 18:22, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
