Construction date of village?[edit]

There is nothing in this article making the point that Istead Rise is an entirely modern construct. The entire village is made up of >1960 houses. That certainly needs to be said, although I am unaware of the exact dates. In addition the information about Ebbsfleet doesn't really need to contain infomation already held on its page, surely? Istead Rise is not an entirely modern village. On the original roads in the village (Downs Road, Arcadia Road, Upper Avenue and Wrotham Road) there are many old houses. Indeed, I live in one of them, built in 1871! The information about Ebsfleet is pertinent to people thinking of moving to the village - commuting times to London will be significantly shorter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandersgm (talkcontribs) 06:54, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Granted that there may well be older houses among what is virtually a modern housing estate - the same thing applies to, for example, Northfleet: on Coldharbour Road close to its Perry Street end, is a one-time farmhouse, still occupied. The fact is that Istead Rise does not constitute a village in the true sense of the word: it was built as a residential estate. The reference I have quoted, which appears to have come originally from valid sources, makes that quite clear. And I do not think that Wikipedia is intended as a house-hunting exercise! If it were then every single place within twenty miles would claim the same thing! Peter Shearan (talk) 15:36, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Istead Rise is a well known "village" on the outskirts of Gravesend. The village is surrounded on all sides by farmers fields, it has a church, and a pub within the Community Centre, and is a thriving community of both young and old. Formerly made up of various smallholdings and farms, until the land was sold for development around the 1900's. Many of the bunglows in the rise were built after WWII. Many of the houses were built in the 1950's & 1960's. With a about ten new properties new built in the last ten years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.148.144 (talk) 17:56, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
