It is curious how this 'nice-sounding' Latin word has been chosen instead of, for example, 'dialogue partner' in view of the fact that its Latin meaning indicates someone who interrupts speech. Pamour (talk) 12:38, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interlocutor ≠ vocative[edit]

This article gave an idiosyncratic description of interlocutor as "the person(s) to whom speech is directed" and "when the object of [a] speech is also named in the phrase". Neither of these are standard definitions of interlocutor. The first definition is that of addressee, audience, or listener. The latter seems to relate to vocative case, but it is idiosyncratic. Although IDONTKNOWIT is not usually a reason for deletion, no glossaries or textbooks I consulted know these idiosyncratic definitions of interlocutor, either. I have therefore reduced the article to a stub. I hope it can be rewritten with proper sources and verifiable content. Cnilep (talk) 11:08, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I am an experienced Wikipedia editor. Also, your manual revert introduced a great deal of formatting error. I'm going to undo that, but I'll try to save any potentially source-able content, and add maintenance tags as necessary. Cnilep (talk) 06:40, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
