The omitted origins of this polytechnic school[edit]

Before 1974 and the aproval of decree Decreto-Lei 830/74 of 31st December 1974, this current polytechnic school, was not an higher education institution. It was an industrial school of vocational education until 1974. Since 1988, was made part of the Porto Polytechnic, but mantaining a large autonomy.Elapsed 08:58, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • if you read the article you will understand the true story of the polytechnic and if you see its links. Debating with you is a lost of time. -Pedro 13:32, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Warning!!! POV in the house...again.[edit]

pedropvz, the ISEP guardian and opinion maker wrote about that polytechnic school: "It is one of the biggest Engineering schools of Portugal, being in the top 3 with circa 6,000 students".

For the casual reader who could reach this article I must advise that this is a completely POV statement. Even if ISEP was considered a engineering school at the full same level of the university engineering schools, it would never be at the TOP 3:

Also ISEL, another polytechnic institution of engineering in Lisbon, is bigger than ISEP having 6500 students.

Well, we can say that ISEP is in the TOP 3 among the polytechnic institutes or in the TOP 4 among all types of engineering schools in Portugal, by number of enrolled students. For a school without any relation with higher education studies until an administrative rule dated from 1974, it is a huge job indeed.Elapsed 16:05, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • FCT = faculty of sciences and technology (is not a school of engineering: btw see this: [1]. OOOpss... What a sizable player and most important and prestigious faculty, surpressed by polytechnics. At the same level? Wake up for the real life, man. ISEP is above FCTUC. And yes, lets not compare it to ISEP, and really people never do, ppl simply exclude FCTUC from everything. Maybe in Coimbra, they give importance to it. In the rest of the country, only IST; FEUP, ISEP and ISEL are usually taken to account. Yes, big four, but only these four!
  • BTW do you know what circa means? You don't. That number is from 2003. We are in 2005 and believe me the number greatly increased. And it is above ISEL, at least is what is being said about the subject. I don't need to imagine things, and boost my school, because I don't need it, you need it because of the decline of your school since 1960s, and ISEP is increasing in prestige even more. You should know Porto better, and from were many big fish studied. What a stupid conversation, again...-Pedro 16:21, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What should be changed in the article[edit]

  • This should be added as a historical fact, otherwise people will think that ISEP is an higher education institution since the 19th century, which is false:

Before 1974 and the aproval of decree Decreto-Lei 830/74 of 31st December 1974, this current polytechnic school, was not an higher education institution. It was an industrial school of vocational education until 1974.

  • The TOP 3 sentence is povish and ambiguous, it should be changed to "one of the biggest by number of enrolled students".
