Article Scope[edit]
There is no clear definition as to what is "industrial plasticine" and what is just regular plasticine, and analogs thereof. From what I can see, the best generic term for this category as a whole is "oil-based clays". I don't think there is any specific different between industrial and hobbyist oil-based clays, beyond designing the clay to have specific desired properties (softening point, hardening point, melting point, hardness at room temperature, color, sulfurated or or non-sulfurated...) which are customized not to the field intending to use it, but to the specific task to be accomplished. I've written a bit of what I know/could find on the Modelling clay article, and there is other content on the Plasticine article, and there is a bit more of the history on the Franz Kolb article (even though much of it is WP:COATRACK for a nonexistant Plastilin article.) I propose the content that is common to all of these be merged to a new article at Oil-based clay, the brand articles be restricted to information unique to the individual brand, and the overview articles be altered to WP:SUMMARY style.
Also, Clay (industrial plasticine) is not an appropriate name for this article, as it is only occassionally referred to as just "clay", so it is not an ambiguous topic. Better choices would be industrial plasticine or plasticine (industrial), but I strongly suspect that if we create an article on oil-based clay in general, this page could just redirect there, as there is very little information that is exclusive to the industrial application, or industrial formulation of plasticine. -Verdatum (talk) 19:20, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
