The countries list on this is just silly. Is there a western or northern European country that this isn't found in? It would be easier to say it's found in all countries in Europe except .... Canterbury Tailtalk 12:45, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The list is direct from the reference. There are some areas in which it isn't present. Regarding the British Isles, the distribution list is clear; it is found in all parts of the BI, so use of the term is completely inclusive and saves having to write out Scotland, IoM, Hebrides, CI etc. etc.. Hope this is okay on this occasion. If it was only present in GB that that would be the term to use, but it is widespread in the BI. MidnightBlue(Talk) 17:32, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What is the reference for this? The reference on the article makes no mention of location that I can see. Canterbury Tailtalk 18:44, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The list of locations in the reference identifies all the areas of the British Isles individually. There's a Distribution button on the second screen of the reference (the map doesn't seem to work). Incidentally, I cleaned up the list as well. Ireland was mentioned twice and there were a few other inconsistencies. MidnightBlue(Talk) 18:50, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, reference doesn't say British Isles, it says Britain including Orkneys, Shetlands, Hebrides and Man. So putting in British Isles isn't equivalenting it. Canterbury Tailtalk 19:48, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It actually says 'Britain I. including ..'. Note that Ireland and the CI are also listed, so the beetle is present in every part of the British Isles. The reference also uses a mixture of countries and geograhical locations. MidnightBlue(Talk) 20:00, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But the point is you've decided that it is equivalent to the British Isles, not the source. Yet you haven't decided that the list constitutes western Europe, grouped in Scandinavia etc, only grouped in the British Isles which isn't present in the source. Canterbury Tailtalk 12:19, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't really decided that. It's as given in any atlas. We could group relevant countries as Scandinavia, and also set up other groups. The list as it stands could perhaps do with some rationalisation. MidnightBlue(Talk) 16:46, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
