Speculation Certainty[edit]

I'm not advocating deletion or anything yet, but having an article about a "likely" ISO code is speculative. Certainly, the South Sudanese government has requested the code SS, but the strong identification of those letters with the Schutzstaffel among Westerners has made that selection far from certain. For all we know now, South Sudan might just as easily be assigned the code OU (South Sudan) or HS (South Sudan) or heaven knows what.

It seems foolish to launch a process to delete this article, because the code SS may perfectly well be chosen within a matter of weeks. I would, however, advocate prudence in 'promoting' the article by linking to it from other articles and templates. And any links that remain should make it clear that the code's selection is not assured. Q·L·1968 23:31, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake—what was missing was merely a convincing reference. The ISO website confirms the selection of SS as the South Sudanese country code. I'll add the reference to the main page. Q·L·1968 23:36, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
