Tournament Name[edit]

I've noted in the article that the IIHF has officially re-named the tournament the IIHF World Junior Championship, so it is inline with how it has been colloquially called for years. [1] Furthermore, it was never called the World U20 Championship officially, but rather the U20 World Championship. I would also like to suggest that the article be re-titled Ice Hockey World Junior Championship(s) rather than World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. The plural form is fine for the tournament overall, but pages for individual years should be singular (ie 2014 Ice Hockey World Junior Championship) as there is only one champion per year.Djob (talk) 10:27, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Country links?[edit]

Shouldn't the country links be to the junior national teams of those countries, rather than just to the countries themselves? Anchoress (talk) 21:25, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How many of those articles exist? --Krm500 (talk) 22:11, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, and that's the point. Readers should be able to at least tell if such articles don't exist yet. I tooled around the Junior Hockey articles for 20 minutes the day I posted the above, without having any of my questions answered or even being able to find out whether the articles I was interested in even existed. Anchoress (talk) 23:14, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They don't, I asked at WP:HOCKEY. --Krm500 (talk) 23:47, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the junior teams have article specifically, but the national teams in general have one (United States national men's ice hockey team) as well as the respective sanctioning bodies (USA Hockey). I think making a separate mens, under-20, and under-18 articles for each country is overkill considering all three are really just different squads of the same team. ccwaters (talk) 13:33, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Past Host Cities & Countries[edit]

Is there a list or article containing this information? It would be good to have. Mr. C.C. (talk) 06:56, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of IIHF World Under-20 Championship medalists includes which countries have hosted each tournament. It used to include the cities as well, though that was evidently removed. Resolute 19:43, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Difference between U18 and U20[edit]

Is there that big of a difference in U18 and U20 just because of an additional 2 year allowance for players. Plus if 18 and 19 year olds are great players wouldnt most of them be pros and hence not eligible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.32.31.254 (talk) 04:20, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rename?[edit]

Should we not consider renaming the article to World Junior Ice Hockey Championships or some such thing? It seems that the IIHF calls it that now. see [1] Dbrodbeck (talk) 01:10, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IIHF World U20 ChampionshipIIHF World Junior Championship – This is both the official name and the common name. A Google test brings back very few hits for "IIHF World U20", almost all results are for "World Junior Championship" or "World Juniors". 162 etc. (talk) 04:21, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support move for reasons enumerated above. Spitzmauskc (talk) 21:32, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Closing comment: I note that there has been a previous move

which has a dubious rationale. Hopefully this RM will bring stability. Andrewa (talk) 14:38, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2025 hosts[edit]

May we please be consistent as to whether or not the United States will be hosting the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship? GoodDay (talk) 17:50, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, if everything else fails we could always source it. Sounds crazy but it might work. The IIHF does not have a confirmed host for any junior tournament beyond 2024, announcements about it usually come on the off day between round robin and quater-finals.18abruce (talk) 20:55, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If we're going to delete the USA as the host of the 2025 WJHC? Best it be done consistently. GoodDay (talk) 21:49, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gord Miller tweeted that Las Vegas is bidding to host the 2026 juniors, so there is information out there that has not been officially publicized. Best to remove USA as 2025 host and wait for a few days for confirmation.18abruce (talk) 21:55, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tournament will be in the USA the bidding is amongst the cities in the USA. Originally 2025 was to be in the USA but now looks like it’s 2026. Was this something done with the Edmonton/Gothenburg 2022/2024 switch?

We can confirm 2026 will be in the United States.

ummm, you supplied a source that says 2025, and then a link to twitter that says 2026. There is nothing conclusive here, and no new information. Within the week the IIHF will publicize what is happening.18abruce (talk) 23:16, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
