Educational assignment[edit]

Hello everyone,

I am a final year Biochemistry BSc student at Imperial College London and as part of an educational assignment, I am expected to improve this article. I plan on increasing the text length using information published in peer-reviewed scientific publications and also I plan on including some diagrams to help better illustrate the concept. My plan for improving the article currently includes:

  • Including a new section about the genetics involved in the initiation of the hypersensitive response: relocate the information about Harold Flor's gene for gene hypothesis into this section and talking about the NLR proteins involved in the process.
  • Including a section about how the HR response is regulated to prevent spontaneous, unregulated cell death by negative regulation of NLR proteins.
  • I would like to expand the 'Mechanism' section to include the different ways in which HR can be activated after recognition of the pathogen effector. Furthermore, I plan on providing specific examples of these mechanisms from peer-reviewed original research.
  • I plan on including a section on a recent discovery that the hypersensitive response might lead to plant speciation.
  • Finally, I would like to compare the HR response and the cellular/molecular components involved in the mechanism are similar or different from the ones observed in animal immunity.
  • I also plan to include several diagrams and/or photos to better illustrate the mechanisms behind the activation of the hypersensitive response. I would highly appreciate any suggestions for this from the community.

This is my preliminary plan on what to include and I would appreciate any suggestions and/or questions from the community on what should I focus on.
