Hunterston Castle aTour[edit]

It had a number of issues. It was promotional (see removal edit summary); it expressed personal opinions, (“interesting/excellent”), which we don’t do; it wasn’t properly formatted, and lastly, and most crucially, it wasn’t sourced. Everything on Wikipedia should be sourced to a reliable secondary source. The opinions of individual editors just don’t cut it, I’m afraid. I appreciate it can be disappointing when your edits are reverted. If you can get a reliable, and independent, secondary source that covers the tours without promoting them, then we could probably include something. Happy to advise further if needed. Hi! Would a member of the press from the local newspaper be acceptable as a secondary source?

My aim is simply to make the article more accurate as there are in fact castle tours available, whereas the article states otherwise!

That would depend. If they were writing as another visitor, like yourself, then no. It would just be another opinion. If, however, you were using an article they had published in their journal on the tour, that would fit the bill admirably. The rules on here can be a bit complicated, especially for newcomers, but, in essence, what we write must allow a reader to Verify it by checking that the point expressed comes from a Reliable, Neutral, Independent and published source. It’s a bit like - If I say to you “this book’s great”, you may be sceptical. You don’t know me, I may be an idiot with no ability to judge literary quality, I may be the author with a financial incentive. But if you read in The Independent their book reviewer saying, “this book’s great”, then you will give their view some weight. Hope this helps. KJP1 (talk) 17:46, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

I think I'll just give up as this is proving too difficult for me to resolve. The article is factually inaccurate as of August 2023, as there are guided tours when it states otherwise, but I am unable to have it corrected without jumping through hoops.

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me. At least I now understand a bit better how Wikipedia works.
