"Illegal migration"?[edit]

The reference to illegal migration is misleading and inaccurate. The vast majority of people seeking to enter Hungary in 2015 and 2016 were asylum seekers and refugees, and by definition, are not illegal immigrants. This articulation reflects talking points of the Hungarian government and raises question marks about the objectivity and accuracy of the entire piece.

According to which definition? There have been people who legally sought for asylum/refugee status, but this was not the majority. Illegal means here not abiding EU and/or Hungarian laws/rules.(KIENGIR (talk) 18:24, 17 November 2020 (UTC))[reply]

Untitled[edit]

  • I removed the notability tag because editor who put it up gave no explanation. My reasons for thinking this notable - beyond that fact that this fence has been in the headlines around the world for weeks, is that the article is well-sourced, significant impact on the European migrant crisis is sourced, a Cabinet Minister resigned because he failed to build the fence fast enough, and articles about border barriers are normative.E.M.Gregory (talk) 14:36, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Slovenian border fence?[edit]

I did a Google search, and I could not find any English sources confirming the existence of a border fence along Hungary's border with Slovenia. Also, the current wording, as brief as it is, is unclear. Is the "razor wire obstacle" the fence described in the first sentence that was apparently only partially constructed? I would appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable than me on this topic would explain. --1990'sguy (talk) 22:41, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the "razor wire obstacle" referred to in the second sentence was the entirety of the partially constructed "fence". Apparently constructed in error, as — if I remember correctly — the Slovenian government raised an issue with it the day it started construction, and the whole thing was removed two days later. --Airminer (talk) 15:39, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Length of the barrier[edit]

According to this RS, which is recent and reliable (2022 briefing by the European Parliamentary Research Service) "Between 2015 and 2017, Hungary built 158 km of fencing at its border with Serbia" and "in 2015, Hungary (a Schengen country) put up a 131-km-long fence at its border with Croatia".

Total lenght = 289 km = 180 ml.

In 2022 BBC reports "Hungary erected more than 200 miles (320km) of fences along its borders with Serbia and Croatia"

Now in the infobox we have "523 kilometres (325 mi)". This number is undoubtly wrong and I'm now removing it.

In the text we have "announced that it had completed the fence along the 348 kilometres (216 mi) border with Croatia" (source NYT 2015). I'm leaving this because it is supported by the source but I'm not sure it is correct. Gitz (talk) (contribs) 12:39, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
