animal powered machines[edit]

I'm new to Wikipedia. Would appreciate it if someone could tidy up the list of animal powered engines so that they are listed underneath each other, rather than consecutively. Michael.

Managed to work out how to do it myself! Michael.

I'm quite new to this too! Have added links to towns / counties.Mjroots 12:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hampshire[edit]

I've removed these comments from the article as they should really be here. Mjroots (talk) 14:05, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it's in Gosport, Hampshire, as part of the Royal Clarence Vitualling Yard. Two are known in this area - one built in 1782 and an exact copy made in 1788 to supply Samuel Wyatts 1782/3 Naval Brewery.
The second gin hasn't been un-covered yet as it lays in a private resident's back garden. It would be very interesting to see it uncovered.

Edge mill[edit]

Should the article edge mill redirect here? -- phoebe / (talk to me) 05:18, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be a good idea to merge Edge mill with this article, but in the interim I have added its link to this article's See Also section. If I understand correctly, the proper procedure is to add a delete-discussion template to the top of the Edge mill page, and a suggestion for a merge to this article should be written on the Delete discussion page and the Edge mill discussion page. But as I'm no expert in these matters, I leave it to others.--Storye book (talk) 14:00, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not a delete. If considered necessary to merge, Edge mill should remain as a redirect here (i) to retain the editing history of that page (as per the GFDL licence) (ii) because it is a valid search term and (iii) because someone in the future may wish to expand it into a separate article again.
As for "how?", see WP:MERGE. You'll need to add 'merge-to' and 'merge-from tags to the two pages as appropriate.
Incidentally, do you have refs to say that ALL edge mills were horse-powered? If so, then a merge makes sense. Otherwise, the combination is incorrect.

Animal Motivation[edit]

I didn't notice any place in the article that talked about how the horses or other animals are motivated; whipping? gentle prodding? carrots on sticks? I don't think this is the place for an analysis of the ethics in using animal power, only a practical answer to the question of "how do you keep the horse moving?". 70.168.53.212 (talk) 23:53, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
