Complete List of HC Recipients[edit]

I have created a complete list of recipients that should be displayed in a sortable table. All data is there on the main page, but the table formatting has not been done - because it is such a time consuming task! If any energetic editor would assist, we would all be most grateful! Simply remove the <! and > to unhide the table once completed. The preceding legacy section should then be deleted once this table has been completed. A.L. Marais[edit]

Hi Farawayman -- you removed A.L. Marais from the list on the grounds that he was awarded the HCS, not the HC. However, according to the list of numbered HCs in Steenkamp's Borderstrike, and the details of awards in van Wyk's Honoris Crux and Uys's Cross of Honour, Marais was awarded the HC, not the HCS. What is the source of the info that he was awarded the HCS and not the HC? Arthur R (talk) 21:00, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The reference I based the move on was Bagshaw, Peter. Warriors of the Sky: Springbok air heroes in combat, 1990, Ashanti Press, Johannesburg. ISBN 1-874800-11-1. On page 127 he states the award was HCS. However, I have just checked Lord, D. From Fledgling to Eagle: SAAF in the Bush War, 2008 - and Lord refers to HC not HCS. I guess Bagshaw is not reliable on this matter! Please revert my edit and cite one of your sources, but - Marais also needs to be removed from HCS. Farawayman (talk) 21:25, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, Dries Marais was awarded the HC, 1975 version. André Kritzinger (talk) 11:15, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do not add * to date[edit]

I see that this note ".....An * behind a date indicates a non-combat or non-operational act of bravery." has been added with changes to the dates. This destroys the column date sort function (i.e. dates containing a * suffix are not treated as dates and are excluded from the sort). The "*" should rather be added as a suffix to the name.
