Untitled[edit]

I've added a significant and detailed article which I've put together on the history of the club. I intend on adding it to the main article(may require slimming in which case I'd appreciate if it was left to me or a consensus at least be reached) and further expanding it in this section. Also, I've left the 2006 piece as it's informative and useful for integrating into the article as it's expanded.

Reliable Sources[edit]

Whoever is repeatedly replacing a reference from the UEFA's homepage with an anonymous person's blog please keep in mind that Wikipedia operates by using reliable sources and not simple fan blogs. That's what sets Wikipedia apart from bog standard Rovers fan websites. And that's what makes Wikipedia superior in my view. Hopefully people can trust Wikipedia because Wikipedia is premised on the idea that Verifiability is of central importance.

In addition, please stop removing tags requesting references (i.e. the {{full}} and {{or}} tags). Rather than vaguely waving at The Hoops book, please provide an inline reference with page numbers so that others can verify the claim. The request for a full citation doesn't appear to have anything whatsoever to do with the The Hoops book. It is asking for a proper full reference to replace "the newspaper archives at the National Library of Ireland"

Finally, please note that the source we are using for the claim that "On 16 September 1990, the RDS played host to Shamrock Rovers against St. Patrick's Athletic, in front of 22,000 people." clearly states that it was the 16th and not the 30th. If you want to find a different reliable source that claims the opposite then please replace the current source with the new source before altering this date again. Changing the date and the quotation without changing the source is intellectually dishonest and it damages Wikipedia's credibility. -Thibbs (talk) 13:40, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted again. Apparently the UEFA ref contains a deadlink which may be a good reason to replace it, but replacing it with random Joe blogger's website is not an appropriate solution. I've tagged the blogspot link so that you can explain in talk why loilegends (aka Thomas Kingston from Cork) is an expert on the topic. You have also repeated your claim that the The Hoops Book covers all of the info tagged as needing sources. Again let me remind you that rather than vaguely waving at the The Hoops book, please provide an inline reference with page numbers so that others can verify the claim. Until you do that, please restrain yourself from removing the tags. Thanks. -Thibbs (talk) 12:49, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Three blogs remain tagged as needing improved sources. If these bloggers are in any way reliable in relation to the sport then please explain here in talk otherwise the information they are backing up will have to be resourced or removed. For reference the blogs/bloggers include:
  • nifootball.blogspot.com - blogger's profile here states "Profile Not Available". Who is this blogger and why is he reliable according to Wikipedia's standards?
  • walkthechalk.blogspot.com - blogger calls himself "sniffers". Apparently used to work in collaboration with another blogger called "el punters" to run the defunct fan site walkthechalk.com. Who is this blogger and why is he reliable according to Wikipedia's standards?
  • loilegends.blogspot.ie - the personal blog of Thomas Kingston. Why is Mr Kingston reliable according to Wikipedia's standards?
Normally blogs aren't allowed per WP:USERGENERATED, but if they are authored by reliable sources then they can be used. Please explain here in talk why nifootball's anonymous blogger, "sniffers" (or "el punters"), and/or Thomas Kingston are reliable sources. -Thibbs (talk) 12:37, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
