Durga Puja[edit]

Hi @BadhonCR and others tracking this page. I see you contributed to this article by adding information about Durga Puja. Do you believe the celebration of Durga Puja in France is widespread and impactful enough to warrant inclusion in the article? Your sentence only speaks of the celebration in 2022, and I'm not sure it's worth noting in the article. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Hinduism at Reunion Island[edit]

“Yet uncertainty over the exact number of Hindus in the country arises from the fact that large numbers of the Indian population identify with the Roman Catholic, Muslim and Hindu faiths.

About 59% of Gujaratis, 40% of Punjabis and 10% of Tamils in Réunion are Hindu. An interesting feature, probably particular to Réunion, is the simultaneous observance by some ethnic Indians of both Catholic and Hindu rites, a practice which has earned them the nickname of being "socially Catholic and personally Hindu".

In reality this statistic concerns Reunion during the colonial era, where Hindus were frowned upon and began to also identify themselves as Catholics (while being Hindu in secret) to be well seen by the colonial administration, and this has never concerned Muslims. Today this practice concerns a very small minority, since Hindus are free to just be Hindus and this is no longer frowned upon.

Concerning the percentages (in addition to the missing sources) most of the Tamils in Réunion are Hindu. The gujaritis of Reunion island was mostly know to be muslims — Preceding unsigned comment added by Settes4664 (talkcontribs) 12:44, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
