Kindly note that a hindu wife, having a living husband, cannot adopt a child, even with the consent of her husband. She may only adopt if her husband is of unsound mind, has ceased to be a hindu or has renounced the world. If husband has expired the wife may adopt subject to exceptions provided in the act. Kindly refer to Sections 8, 8(c), 10 and 11 of the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act 1956.122.160.98.23 (talk) 06:03, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
