Striped Bass?[edit]

Herrington lake does not contain Striped bass. But rather Hybred bass, which is a cross between a White bass and a striped bass. This error needs to be looked into and fixed.Joshinatorky 19:15, 12 December 2006 (UTC)joshinatorky[reply]

According to the Ky Dept of Fish and Wildlife, it does. Now, of course, they could be wrong. If you find a source that lists all the fish there, please update the article. Thanks. Fanra 15:55, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Department of Fish and Wildlife reference has disappeared. I replaced it with one from Harrodsburg, which talks about hybrid striped bass. Robomanx (talk) 09:47, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dix River Dam[edit]

Shouldn't this article talk about the Dix River Dam? Or maybe a separate article on it? Robomanx (talk) 09:50, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a flood control structure nor controlled by USACE[edit]

The following statements "The generating station at the dam is now mainly used for flood control under control of the Army Corps of Engineers." are both uncited and incorrect to the best of MY knowledge. As for as I know, the lake is completely private owned by KU, and all surrounding land and 16 boat ramps are privately owned. The lake was never intended for nor is used for flood control, that would imply a winter and summer pool, which Herrington Lake does not have. The USACE has no control over the Dix Dam operation, but KU has been known to notify emergency management and downstream residents during heavy discharges.

If USACE managed the Dam, they would provide water level observations to NOAA, they do not. Indeed, KU provides the observational data to NOAA. http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lmk&gage=dixk2

USACE controlled dams would be courtesy of USACE such as Wolf Creek Dam http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lmk&gage=wlck2

Additionally, local newspaper articles seem to confirm that USACE is not a decision maker in the control of discharge from the dam. http://www.kentucky.com/2011/04/19/1712439/kentucky-utilities-opens-floodgates.html
