George Gage and Chips Channon[edit]

This is evidently the same person who appears extensively in the Diaries of Chips Channon, but who was always called George Gage. Channon was in love with him and they were close friends until Gage's marriage in 1931. This article should make some mention of this, since it is now all he his remembered for. Yes, it is of course the same person. As Gage was living with Channon when he was in London, and from time to time apparently in the same bed, it was a very close relationship. Here is part of the diary entry for 22 February 1928:
G [Gage] very peevish and ‘disquietous’, I untactful, and we came nearer to having a quarrel than ever we have had all these years: he says he cannot understand me etc, but coated his pills with compliments, said I would be the best wife a man could possibly have etc. I retorted a little, and I went to bed angry with him not at all knowing what to think. But I’ve seen signs of a mood for several days. Of course, no sleep, my nerves aching and my brain awake. Shall I divorce him? I know he doesn’t appreciate me.
