Coordinate error[edit]

{{geodata-check}}

The following coordinate fixes are needed for the location of the 1910 Hawes Junction rail accident:

Correct location is: 54.3362N,-2.3231W

I have studied a DVD of the line taken from the cab of a train, along with actual contemporary photographs of the accident - there is no doubt that this is the correct location

Declined. — The official report, linked in the article, says on page 2 that the probable point of collision was 442 yards (that is, 404m, or about a quarter of a mile) north of Grisedale Crossing, a footbridge over the railway. Grisdale Crossing is located just at the point where your suggested coordinates point (there's still a footbridge there and you can see from the 1910-1913 maps at old-maps.co.uk that it's still in the same place). The coords in the article are almost exactly 442 yards north of that point. Unless you have specific evidence to contradict the official report, then the existing coords ought to stand. If you have such evidence, post it here and replace the {{geodata-check}} template. Regards, TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 18:02, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you are right I mistook the coordinates of the crossing with those of the embankment against which the photographs show the wreckage piled up - thank you Mrrash (talk) 14:18, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
