Untitled[edit]

I remember no news articles that would inplicate the "farmers in the area" If such an inflamitory statement is to be made a citation is certainly required

How about a mention of the famous automotive products made here (oil filters, oil additives, and the like)? Does someone have a good reference? It's hard to cite the side of an oil filter box!! Rlquall 21:40, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the vandalism to Fisher Fountain mentioned in this article actually took place in the late 1980s. Certainly the Adams County Historical Society (or the signage next to the fountain!) could answer this. 75.51.221.217 05:25, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about a mention of the Hastings museum as well as the softball hall of fame and museum at the smith softball complex? 216.170.29.73 20:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We visited Hastings this weekend, and checked the plaque by the fountain. The fountain was vandalized on July 7, 1984 at 12:30 am, according to the plaque. The fountain was rebuilt and back in service May 1985. Unfortunately, the fountain was off for the winter during our visit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dekayjack (talkcontribs) 01:16, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added a parenthetical phrase indicating that St. Michael's Elementary was originally the Lincoln Elementary School building. I suppose with all the youngsters on the Internet, I'm going to have to source this fact. Mentummike (talk) 20:50, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio[edit]

At least some of the section on architecture/history is taken directly from the Spilinek book. This needs to be rewritten, and any passages taken from other sources in a similar manner. Yngvadottir (talk) 08:23, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've extensively rewritten to remove copyvios, but if there was more than one source, I may have missed some. I also cut back sections that were saying things that properly belong in other articles, and made a main article referral header for the section on the Ammunition Depot. I added references to the Historical Society site at the same time as I was adding the Spilicek references. I was unable to document the plaque. There was too much stuff in the lead paragraph; I made a separate section for notable natives and residents and added a few more who came up on search, but there are probably more worth mentioning.Yngvadottir (talk) 13:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I read the article just before these edits, and it's been greatly improved. Thanks, Yngvadottir.
I've added Fred Andrew Seaton to the notable-residents list. Is there a convention for ordering people on these lists? I stuck Seaton in with two other political figures.
I've also removed the one-sentence section on Hastings Aquacourt, which is already mentioned in the "Parks and recreation" section; and the section on Motorsport Park. The latter included the phrase "luxury condos", which triggered my personal spam alarm. In looking at their website, I got the impression that the facility was not open to the public. If I'm wrong, it might be desirable to put in something about the place; but it should be much less spamsome than the section I deleted.

Oh good. I cut both the water park and the motorsport park way back, since they both looked stylistically as if they were copied from somewhere and I didn't see the need to enumerate every feature of either. In the case of the water park it may be the city parks site. The Motorsport Park is apparently a "country club" sort of thing, but I'm not sure whether it's worth mentioning anyway, especially since it's outside town. Glad to have other eyes assessing this material; it can always be put back in a less commercial form, and I tend to go lightly on the hacking and slashing, probably too lightly in some cases.
I think lists of people can be ordered thematically, alphabetically, or by rough date . . . I wasn't sure how to order this lot myself, so I let the order they came up on search decide for me! Except for the Kool-Aid guy, whom I thought should come first. Happy to have you add somebody - none of these are folks I had heard of. I think thematic is asserting itself as the most natural.
It would be nice to have corroboration of the claims about the fountain's being the largest between Chicago and Denver and being protected only by a low fence, and/or a pic of it. But even without those I think the article's better now than it was. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:23, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a photo of the Fisher Rainbow Fountain—unfortunately, one taken by day. Will try to get a photo of the colored-lighted fountain the next time I'm in the Hastings area at night.
I've removed two sentences: about the low fence, and about the plaque. They don't strike me as being of general interest. For what it's worth, I've posted a (poor) picture of the plaque in Commons:Category:Fisher Rainbow Fountain.

Judge Rader[edit]

Notable People[edit]

Is Judge Rader notable? JDAWiseman (talk) 14:10, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He is. And there's a good reference for him here -> [1]. Do you know how to add him to the notable people list? Cheers. Richard Apple (talk) 14:15, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
