The Hashomer Hatzair Workers Party of Palestine (Hebrew: מִפְלֶגֶת פּוֹעָלִים הַשׁוֹמֵר הַצָעִיר בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל)

add translation of Hebrew literally as "Hashomer Hatzair Workers Party in Israel".

Source: I speak fluent Hebrew.

  • Not quite. What it says is 'Eretz Israel', which is not the same as 'Israel'. During the Mandate period it was common practice to use 'Eretz Israel' as Hebrew name for Palestine. 'Hashomer Hatzair Workers Party of Palestine' was the English-version name used by the party itself, see books.google.com/books/about/The_Case_for_a_Bi_national_Palestine.html?id=yp1CAAAAYAAJ --Soman (talk) 19:50, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: as the initial request did not cite reliable sources to back up the request, whilst a later comment cites a source contradicting the request. - Arjayay (talk) 10:18, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 13 July 2016[edit]

The result of the move request was: Moved. With !votes divided 2-2, this is a borderline decision, but I discounted Electoralist's argument as not policy-based: the name is not ambiguous even without the geographical setting. Cullen328's argument seems compelling. No such user (talk) 10:31, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hashomer Hatzair Workers Party of PalestineHashomer Hatzair Workers Party – The party name was "Hashomer Hatzair Workers Party" and since there was no such party in other places outside of Mandatory Palestine (Eretz Yisrael), the "of Palestine" suffix is a redundant suffix, added for unclear reason. • Oppose, this was the English-version name used by the party itself. See [1]. --Soman (talk) 15:04, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. According to WP:COMMONNAME, "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's 'official' name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." A Google Books search shows that the four word name is more common in English language sources than the six word name. The full name can be kept in the lead paragraph. • Oppose This was the English name and having a geographical marker in the name is useful. Would support Hashomer Hatzair Workers Party (Mandatory Palestine) as an alternative. Electoralist (talk) 05:24, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
