Betting scandal[edit]

no mention of his alleged betting scandal where his players placed bets on him to return to the portsmouth job? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.7.253 (talk) 05:19, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone understand why that was a 'scandal' in the first place? If a bookmaker chooses to take bets on something which is not a regulated sporting event, why should those with knowledge not take advantage of it? Zooterkin 08:32, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1000 games[edit]

According to the club website [1] he has already reached the 1000 games milestone, whereas the Soccerbase figures[2] only total 999. What happened to the "missing" games? Daemonic Kangaroo 06:26, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

England job[edit]

Something should be pt about the speculation of him being a candidate to replace Steve McClaren. He's not a rank outsider--RedMe (talk) 12:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quite simpy - no. WP is not the place for speculation. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 17:20, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Next Spurs manager[edit]

Almost certainly. But wait until its official! Jw2034 (talk) 23:17, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it is nowJw2034 (talk) 23:43, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yep, it's official, now to add Harry on my Watch list! Govvy (talk) 09:40, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone change or remove him saying he is a spurs fan as he has said on many times that he is a arsenal fan a swell —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whatatraitor (talkcontribs) 12:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heavy vandalism[edit]

Please can the edits keep an eye on the links, context of the article, all edits on 26th which is today have been shadowing vandalism in links and context. Keep your eyes open, Thanks. Govvy (talk) 10:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed[edit]

"Redknapp was also unhappy with chairman Rupert Lowe's appointment of Sir Clive Woodward to the club's coaching staff."

I'm from Southampton, and don't think this is the case. A citation is needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.214.148.49 (talk) 19:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It definitely was the case, but everything has to always be cited. Badgerpatrol (talk) 16:37, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Asia Trophy[edit]

I have removed the Asia trophy from the list of his honours as it is not in the same 'class' of trophy as those Harry has won. It is a friendly touranment that teams are invited to, it is not a proper competition. It does not show on Sam Allardyces list of honours, and nor do other friendly-tournaments show in other manager's honours list. 194.221.133.226 (talk) 11:20, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2009 rumours[edit]

On the 2nd October 2009, rumours were spread that Harry Redknapp was going to be sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager due to allegations that Mr Redknapp was involved in illegal activity at Portsmouth.

An IP keeps putting this into the article. They should know that it is a waste of time unless it is sourced. I am on the verge of 3RR but about to check whether there is an exception to 3RR for unsourced BLP issues. Britmax (talk) 18:18, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good work. I added some sourced material about the rumours and it was reverted. Does anyone have a view on whether it is worth including? Cordless Larry (talk) 22:33, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep.. It's not worth including, has no effect on truth, is false and false information shouldn't be added in his biography. Govvy (talk) 22:40, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The rumours were false. The fact that there were rumours isn't false. There's a difference. It got quite wide news coverage. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:44, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I should of also stated WP:NEWSPAPER. Section 4. The whole section covers this sort of thing. I am pretty sure this is one of those events that fall into this section and doesn't warrant inclusion into the article. Govvy (talk) 23:13, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I'm aware of that. I think it's a marginal case. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:24, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Britmax (talk) 09:10, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a collection of tittle-tattle: there is no place for any talk of rumours. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 09:16, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, not notable for encyclopaedic inclusion. Rumour and speculation doesn't belong here.--ClubOranjeT 09:28, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While agreeing that this is a marginal case I would point out that rumours if clearly noted as such do have a place here if adequately sourced. Sometimes their influence on events rivals that of facts, IMO. Britmax (talk) 09:38, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Only if they turn out to be true or to a certain amount of truth, changing an effect in a timeline. Govvy (talk) 10:27, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I defer to consensus. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:15, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Playing career[edit]

At present, the section on his playing career is far too brief; less than one line to cover 18 years. Consequently, I can't see how this article can be ranked higher than "Start" class, and my own previous rating as "C" class was rather generous. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 07:51, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored some player career, however, the reason it was removed, I don't know. There are probably sources around for more information, books, web, archives... But the article is way beyond a Start rating, and I don't think putting back the C rating is too much to ask. Govvy (talk) 18:07, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For example, he is described as a midfielder but I only recall him playing on the left wing at Bournemouth. Britmax (talk) 23:24, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements needed[edit]

This article is dreadful. It is badly written and suffers from pov. Redknapp is also referred to throughout as 'Harry' - surely this is not appropriate unless it is linked earlier in the article with a reference to why he is known as such - i.e. 'commonly referred to as Harry or 'Arry'...etc'

"Harry saved Tottenham from relegation last season when Juande Ramos left the club with 2 pts from 8 games."

Now this is not balanced and appears to written from a Spurs fan pov - which is not up to wiki standards. Also Harry had 28 games and spent over £40 million in Jan 2009, so 'saving' makes him to be a football messiah. I like Harry and admire what he's done but regardless of that such opinions don't belong in a wiki article. Juande Ramos should also be mentioned only in that Harry took over from him.

"Harry then qualified Spurs for the Champions League for the first time in the club's history."

I may be picky but this appears really poorly worded and could do with rewording - and including the winning of the Manager of the Season award.

I've made some changes which I think take the article forward and I hope others will try and do the same. Remember wiki is not about bigging up anyone, it is an information portal so points of view (parochial in football at the best of times) do not belong. If you cannot write balanced then don't bother and in this case it does Harry no favours.

This needs citation (and there are loads) and could be worded better as well as more wiki links.I have amended the article tpo get the ball rolling (no pun intended) so this can be cleaned up.

- My changes did not save, so will attempt to clean this up again. (unsigned edit byUser talk:217.44.87.241)

I would suggest you reread the article as both Harry's name and the reference to his Manager of the Season Award are already included. Secondly, making comments such as the article is dreadful and badly written is hardly constructive. Frankly, saying Remember wiki is not about bigging up anyone does not really add weight to you argument either. Rather than pontificate just go and edit again and improve the article and allow others to judge for themselves the improvements you feel are needed. By the way please sign your comments in future by adding four ~ Cheers. Tmol42 (talk) 00:57, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 14 June 2012[edit]

Suggest change to the Tottenham Hotspur section to highlight the controversy over the departure, particularly in the media.

Change: "Redknapp left Tottenham on 13 June 2012, after reportedly failing to agree terms on a new contract" to "Redknapp controversially left Tottenham on 13 June 2012, after reportedly failing to agree terms on a new contract"

The word 'controversially' would breach Wikipediia policy approach to presenting a neutral point of view. There is a good citation already provided and those suggested are not ubiqutously considered as reliable sources. Tmol42 (talk) 16:15, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 24 November 2012[edit]

There is a typing error in the section on Rednaps move to Queens Park Rangers. The text shows wasppointed rather then was appointed. 62.254.79.100 (talk) 12:30, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Bonds[edit]

I think there should be more detail about the circumstances in which Redknapp took over from Billy Bonds at West Ham. The two had been firm friends since playing days but Redknapp went behind Bonds' back and did a deal with the West Ham board. The two have not spoken since. When asked about it, Redknapp does his characteristic shrug and holds his hands out: "I'd never do a thing like that" .... -Old Harry Watcher — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.191.68.143 (talk) 09:20, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've rate this page a B because it is a good story, and given the current description of the rating system I will not give out negative ratings for fair pages. It doesn't mean that the page needs to be edited.

A picture and matching infobox is needed

The most of important part is referencing the page. There are plenty of sources available including the BBC and the Guardian, so it shouldn't be that hard. Nevertheless it is clear that it has been written by people who are knowlegable about the subject and therefore I have little doubt about the overall correctness of the page. I've marked three points which definitely need citation, however there are more things which need to be checked.

Since this is a football page, it is requires somebody to put the page on watch and protect it against vandalism. From what I can see it's still clean, but it is necessary in this case to maintain the quality, and prevent vandalism staying on the page for too long.
