I was under the impression that there were no natural organochlorides, with the exception of some rare slightly halogenated fatty acids. Is there evidence to show that Halomon is actually created by the algae and not absorbed from the surroundings? Is there an actual enzyme that chlorinates this molecule? There are many natural organochlorides. They are typically produced by enzymatic chlorination. For this particular compound, it would be extremely unlikely that it wasn't produced by the algae from which it has been isolated, so probably no one has bothered to determine that definitively.
