HakkariHakkari (historical region) – The current arrangement for disambiguation is confusing, as it only distinguishes the name of the region from the modern city by using a diacritic mark that is not available on most keyboards (â). eh bien mon prince (talk) 06:47, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem as long as we turn Hakkari into a DAB. Other variants such as Hakkiari, and Hakari are specifically used for the historical region.--Rafy talk 17:03, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Support disambiguation of base name, sounds good -- 76.65.131.160 (talk) 08:57, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Negative Oppose per WP:TWODABS. A disambiguation page is not needed when there are only two entities of the same name and only increases the number of clicks a user has to make. The hatnote at the top of current Hakkari page can take care of those needing the modern city. —  AjaxSmack  02:04, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

– These topics are not distinguished enough as both of them could be spelled either way. Along with Hakkari (electoral district), Hakkâri Province, Emirate of Hakkâri (all of which might be called just "Hakkari" in context), they should be listed on a Hakkari dab page. • Support, and have a DAB at base name.--Ortizesp (talk) 03:06, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, there was a WP:TWODABS argument made in the previous discussion, but I find it very misguided. Outside of Wikipedia, it is generally considered okay to write Hakkâri, the modern city, as Hakkari, and most Turkish users of English Wikipedia would write Hakkari, not Hakkâri. Google Ngram results, while making it seem like Hakkari is a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, also reveal that in English sources, using Hakkari without the circumflex is quite common when refering to the modern city as well. Side note, the name Hakkari without the circumflex can also be a surname, overestimating the Google Ngram results. Uness232 (talk) 07:16, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I would prefer 'Hakkari (city)' but this is an improvement. --Semsûrî (talk) 21:19, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have no preference as to the spelling of the city's name. (t · c) buidhe 21:24, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per noms sound rationale. - LouisAragon (talk) 19:49, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose the first but support the second. If we are going to have an article on the broad concept that unites all the others, might as well make it primary. Srnec (talk) 02:57, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Srnec, I would consider this a broad concept article if this were a current region such as Macedonia (region). But this is a historical one that doesn't seem to apply beyond 1915 or 1924. (t · c) buidhe 03:06, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't a Turkish province with the name make it a current region? Srnec (talk) 23:05, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is that referring to Hakkari in 2021 means either the Turkish province or the city, but in 1900 it referred to the historical region which covered a broader area "encompassing parts of the modern provinces of Hakkâri, Şırnak, Van in Turkey and Dohuk in Iraq".
