MB vs MiB, a marketing evolution

I believe this device may have been instrumental in the transition of industry-wide disk drive marketing from units in powers-of-two to units of powers-of-ten. Prior HP disk drives were marketed in terms of their actual MiB (then also called "MB") (factor of 1024 * 1024) size, but for this drive that would have resulted in a capacity of 385 "old MB", whereas by switching to millions of bytes (1,000,000) the capacity increased to 404 "new MB" thus pushing it across the psychologically impressive 400 number. All subsequent HP disk models were marketed using the modern convention of using factors of 1,000,000.
