Please explain[edit]

"..firing along the line of the keel produced unacceptable blast damage to the superstructure, so that in reality the turrets could only fire on beam arcs". ??? I am guessing that this might mean that it could only fire directly to the sides, but this seems to imply that the ship was designed by a moron. Such stuff needs to be spelt out unambiguously for the novice. The whole point of an encyclopedia is to make serious stuff accessible to a general audience.
