Hi, the link to the official website of the airport appears to point to a domain which has expired.

Third busiest?[edit]

Both Chennai and B'lore articles claim theirs is the third 'busiest' airport in India (sometimes citing the same sources), so I thought I will dig around a bit. For one, both articles use media reports and some online editorials to make these claims and I find contradicting information from such sources. For ex. The Hindu says Bangalore is third busiest in this Apr '06 news article, and turns around to say that Chennai is the 3rd busiest in this Feb '07 news report. I doubt if its based on any change in traffic patters, probably points to some sloppy editing. Same with another source, the "Center for Asia Pacific aviation" - which gives contradicting reports here and here. So, I dont think these sources are 'reliable' for verifying such objective claims.

Fortunately, the AAI website is pretty informative and gives excruciating details about all kinds of traffic for all major airports in India. This, I believe is more authoritative and reliable than any of the said sources. I give the jist of the numbers for the latest available month (Jun-07) here:

Total aircraft movements: Blore-9050, Chennai-9365 (Annexure-IIC)

Total passenger traffic: Blore-832K, Chennai-907K (Annexure-IIIC)

Total freight handled in tonnes: Blore-14K, Chennai-22K (Annexure-IVC)

In all cases, Mumbai and Delhi are the 1st and 2nd busiest. In light of these numbers, the articles need to be updated with this source (and remove the ambiguous media reports). Lotlil 22:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current Operations?[edit]
