The problem with Breyer-Esser[edit]

It does feature a very spectacular and imaginative move in 14.Kf1!? Unfortunately the game itself is of very poor quality. The hype around it was largely a result of the notes by Breyer's friend Reti in Modern Ideas in Chess. The combination should not have worked, and Breyer played so badly in time trouble that he almost lost the game after being within a few moves of mate. Definitely not a classic game.
