Member names[edit]

Is this vandalism, there is something seriously wrong with that section.- Noctrine 03:17, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • To whomever got it, thanks. I didn't know there names at the time - Noctrine 13:27, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think Tyler Pursel and De Jesus need to be added. Also, Sie One was never IN the band, how is he considered a former member? Travis works with Sie One in a side project called Bernie Allen. MissSoSneaky 00:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

emo rap[edit]

gym class heroes = emo rap. perhaps you have never heard them? 69.141.102.233 06:34, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

no I dont think they would classify as emo rap. They're just associated with Fueled By Ramen (Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is...). A more prime example of "emo rap" would be Cage's (formerly Cage Kennylz) new stuff. Even then, Emo Rap is a subgenre of music which I think is more derogatory than descriptive. Emo rap = rap that actually has meaning. Noelletastic 00:41, 11 March 2007 (UTC)noelletastic[reply]

yeah, i agree. emo rap is more derogatory than meaningful. plus, you should listen to their albums again. i dont really hear much emo in the rap. it's not rap as we usually know it (hip-hop rap as in 50 cent or others) but it's still rap. i dont think it's emo. Recurring Lyrical Elements[edit]

-the Recurring Lyrical Elements section needs work

-one quick change was to remove the Bob Ross bullet. since To Bob Ross With Love is an extended/revamped version of Happy Little Trees, Bob Ross doesn't seem like a notable recurring subject

-hehe, I'm preeeetty sure that's not the Bob Ross referenced. I have an AP article and I believe that Bob Ross is a producer friend of theirs. Either way, I'm almost certain Bob Ross is a personal friend.

-Bob Ross is in reference to the painter who used to host his own television show. He always talked about painting 'happy little trees.' The song is about art and how it's easy to become commercialized. Bob Ross kept it real.

Miniwheats 16:40, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know the lyrics to To Bob Ross With Love? If you've ever even read any of them, it's pretty obvious that he is the Bob Ross they talk about, not a personal friend.

-one change I wanted to make was that "Cupid's Chokehold" is a reference (lyrically and melodically) to SuperTramp's "Breakfast in America". Unfortunatley I don't know where it would go. 24.116.241.207 04:52, 11 September 2006 (UTC) Vampypoo[reply]

Compilations[edit]

If we include the punk goes 90's album, then there are many compilation albums that would have to be included. Are compilations normally included in discographies? -- SLATE 05:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Members Section[edit]

I moved the list of members to the infobox area. Currently it's just a list that does little but pad out the page. To be in the main article it should be expanded upon. Tell the reader when the former members joined. Were they founding members? What was their contribution to the band? Why and when did they leave? When did the current members join? etc... This would be better and it would make the History section more comprehensive. What are your thoughts? Generalhoneypot 01:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Albums / Lyrical Content[edit]

Moving the page away from being full of lists and making it more of an informative article

Rather than using the box, there can be a section where each album is discussed, (and a link to further info is placed). See the page on the KLF for an example. This would stop the page from being full of lists, which is what it currently is. It would also mean that those who wish to, can go into greater detail about lyrical elements.Generalhoneypot 02:03, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Number of Members[edit]

-I saw this band this past weekend and there are definitely 5 people in the band. Also, there is certainly 5 people on the latest album as well. I don't know much about the band, but I think this should be researched by somebody. --MattDell 03:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was this a guy waving a flag? That's DeJesus, the band's tour manager. They have performed with a keyboardist but he's not in the band. Prehaps we can have a section on the people they bring into their live performances? Where do you see this 5th member on the album? There are guest apperances by Speech and Patrick, but they're not in the band. Generalhoneypot 22:24, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
De Jesus is the Flag waver/hypeman/back-up singer. I'd definately consider him apart of the band, Tyler Pursel too, since they've been on tour with them for almost a year and make appearances in the ACASC music videos. MissSoSneaky 23:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

band member update[edit]

as of june 2006 Gym Class Heroes added a keyboard player, Tyler Pursel. He's been with them through all the touring this past year and does a mean beat box!!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.199.248.189 (talk) 18:41, 26 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Why is it that all these brothers are now doing stuff white boy be doing? Ryan Gliese should be rapping.74.195.3.199 21:12, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone edited it and said they "suck horribly.." etc. (the rest was an unorganized pile of grammatical error-filled garbage).

How mature

Their mysapce page says 4 members, so leave it at that, but watching live videos at youtube, they seem to have an extra two live members at least. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.106.224.129 (talk) 00:34, August 20, 2007 (UTC)

"Cupid's Chokehold" version[edit]

I'd like to address the mention of "Cupid's Chokehold" being on As Cruel as School Children in the article's lead section. True, the song was first released on The Papercut Chronicles. But the version that charted the Billboard Hot 100 and that "the band is best known for", is the remixed version (with the new video that is currently on music television) that was released on their current album. I urge editors not to change this. --HarryCane 17:21, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up needed[edit]

This article is in horrible shape. The lead provides insufficient information about the band, the history section is a joke, the tables in the discography are useless and more importantly violate WP:MUSTARD, and the trivia and recurring lyrical elements lists are way too long (i.e. shouldn't be there in the first place). Also, if someone could provide a free image of the band, that would be perfect, as the current one will most likely be deleted soon. --HarryCane 23:09, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dam kids...i hardly think the Lyrical elements is a good idea. For one, they havent had enough albums for us to be making links like that and for two its rly repetative and stupid. Also agree that the History is quite odd, there are various interviews through out the web that point in the other direction. Im glad they are big now, but lets give them page to be proud of!

http://www.fromoutofnowhere.com/gym05.html- old interview you should draw from

http://www.the-trades.com/article.php?id=3129- another old one specialy for travis, can be used on a page soley for travis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAykXQe6p6k-video interview that answers a lot of things that may be used in an intro Para.

I'm deleting the part about Travis covering "Space Cowboy" since 1) the AP.net link no longer works [1] and 2) It was said to be a hoax [2] and Panic Management denied it. MissSoSneaky 01:28, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation Needed[edit]

Someone needs to make a disambiguation page for "Schleprock". Right now, a search for "Schleprock" dumps you here, rather than to a page for the band Schleprock, or the Flintstones character Schleprock. -cobalt*

defination of "gym class heroes[edit]

we also need a disambiguation page for the term gym class heroes since it can refer to more than the band it self but also heroes of the average Physical education class

like who for instance??

an impossibility due to the laws of time![edit]

From the article: "After hearing the song "Taxi Driver", Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy invited the band to one of his shows. Gym Class Heroes then went on to join Pete Wentz's label, Decaydance Records, an imprint of Fueled by Ramen. Travis later said that Stump's support, coupled with the label's touring ethos and family atmosphere, led the band to signing with Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen."

Yet the song taxi driver pays tribute to artists who are fans of GCH, and also mentions their record label Ramen. Therefore Stump cannot have heard the record then invited them to his show, the song was written after these events. Grunners 17:45, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He might have heard a demo version of the song, or the outro mentioning "ramen" was added later to the song. Because most of the album (basically everything except "Cupid's Chokehold") was recorded before the band's signing to Fueled by Ramen. --HarryCane 19:32, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
From my GCH knowledge, This was how the band was signed to FBR/Decaydance: Matt (the bassist) was on AIM with a guy named Nick, who asked if they were interested in getting some merchandise designs. Matt then sent him some tracks from Papercut Chronicles, one of them being Taxi Driver (where the band pays a tribute to artists/bands THEY are fans of, not the other way around) who just happened to being going on tour with FOB (Fall Out Boy) to take some pictures. He then played some of the tracks for them. Pete Wentz was introduced to Taxi Driver, so he met up with GCH in Buffalo and it started from there. I got this information from video interviews and I'm not sure if it counts as real proof here in Wikipedia. MissSoSneaky 20:43, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

shoot down the stars[edit]

Members faces?[edit]

I've read their names, but can't match the faces to the names. Who is who? I know Travis is the lead singer, but I can't figure out who anyone else is. --Panic!out (talk) 18:05, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
