I have a computer science background and am not familiar with the term. The article doesn't have enough context to let me know how I should connect this to what I already know. We need lots more context of where this is used, and also probably some examples. I'd would advise you to look up the book "Designing the User Interface" by Ben Shneiderman & Catherine Plaisant ISBN-13: 978-0-321-53735-5. I am currently a Computer Science student in an HCI class, this book is a great introduction and can be useful in helping you learn HCI.
