Clarification[edit]

Please note, the following phrase gives a mistaken impression that was not part of the Toronto Star article cited. "A volunteer group, Friends of Guild Park and Gardens, was formed in 2013 to try to rescue the park and restore the inn.[8]"

Note: To clarify, the newly-formed Friends of Guild Park and Gardens is focused on "revitalizing" or "reviving" the 88-acre park by attracting more people and attention to the site. The Friends group is not focused on "restoring the inn" . The fate of the original building that served as the Guild Inn is entirely up to the City of Toronto. Given the changing community demographics, the change in Toronto's hotel industry and the deterioration of the building itself, it is extremely unlikely that an inn or hotel operation will be revived on the Guild grounds. Restoring the original building is also unclear. A 2005 City of Toronto report recommended the structure be demolished

More recently, a structural Engineering Assessment (dated Sept. 14, 2011) of the Bickford Residence done by Rochon Engineering stated: "The structural components of the building are structurally sound and the building is in suitable condition to for [sic] architectural and interior retrofit."

It's important that the City of Toronto make a decision about the future of the building and the future use of the site. Meanwhile the citizens involved in the new Friends of the Guild Park & Gardens will be focused on attracting more people and attention to the park itself.
