Merger with Individual rights[edit]

I propose that this article be merged with Individual rights in a manner mirroring negative and positive rights and claim rights and liberty rights. Currently the Individual rights article is in rather poor condition (I just made a pass at cleaning it up but it still lacks any citations); this article is much better and discusses individual vs group rights issues that would be relevant to the Individual rights article too. I think it would serve the best interests of Wikipedia if, rather than duplicating content from here to improve that article, we were to merge the two articles into one article discussing the distinction between group and individual rights. Thoughts? -Pfhorrest (talk) 03:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

mmm, i would oppose a merge, mainly because I think there is much to be said about individual and group rights that goes beyond the comparison. Both articles still need a lot of work and extension.
If you think that a section or part of group rights article is relevant for the individual rights article you could adopt it into the individual rights article and change/extend it as appropriate.--SasiSasi (talk) 20:21, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is useful as a separate article, and therefore do not support merging.Ferrylodge (talk) 02:15, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to request further reasons why people thing this and individual rights are not both discussing the distinction between the two concepts. They still seem largely redundant to me. For example, both include a first section on "Western discourse" which look like derivatives of the same original paragraph, and both contain an "Objectivist view" section which as far as I can tell are identical between the two articles. The majority of the remainder of both articles seem to be discussing how group rights differ from individual rights or vice versa. It's been a year and a half since I first proposed this merger and I've seen no divergence between the two as SasiSasi suggested would occur; in fact they seem to be growing more similar.
I'm going to open up a discussion on this subject there as well, and reimplement the merger templates. --Pfhorrest (talk) 00:06, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ayn Rand[edit]
