Icicles in Grotta del Gelo
Icicles in Grotta del Gelo

Moved to mainspace by Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk). Self-nominated at 21:17, 22 January 2020 (UTC).[reply]

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: No - I'm not sure it's interesting or surprising that a cave has ice. The fact that it's in Italy makes it more surprising, perhaps you could integrate that into the hook?

Image eligibility:

QPQ: No - ?
Overall: Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus, are you new to DYK? If not you have to provide QPQ. Nice article! buidhe 22:13, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Buidhe No, I am not new to DYK at least. But because of time constraints, I sometimes send in the QPQ after I've written the nomination. It is Template:Did you know nominations/Colin Brignall.
Regarding a hook, perhaps this could work:
ALT1: ... that the Grotta del Gelo (pictured) cave on Etna volcano is filled with ice?
...considering that I've certainly seen questions about whether there can be ice on volcanoes. Regarding visibility, would any of the images on commons:Category:Grotta del Gelo work? Some of them are a bit iffy licence-wise. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:22, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Jo-Jo Eumerus, Thanks for the QPQ. I checked the images. I don't think any of the ones that show ice are clear enough at the required size. ALT1 accepted, no image. buidhe 13:59, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Southernmost glacier?[edit]

The claim that this could be the southernmost glacier in the Northern hemisphere is obviously bogus. For example the Khumbu Glacier is located about 10° of latitude further south. So I removed this sentence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ilia Smilga (talkcontribs) 11:28, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. How in hell did I forget about the Himalayan glaciers. Removed that sentence. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 11:33, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
