Please feel free to add to the vast list of dances and slowly we can add articles and descriptions to the dances and historical informations.

This is a list of Greek Dances and Dance descriptions - currently a work in progress. Some history about the dance and references for further reading will be added as time goes on. The name of the dances appear under each region. Next to the name of the dance you will find the names of specific villages, areas or towns e.g. Kotsari Kars. Please feel free to add to the articles and dance descriptions.

RECENT EDITS

I made numerous edits, because I believe that there is great potential for this article, however someone with more expertise in Greek culture/dance should have a look at some of these dance names, as a few link to other cultures e.g. Indian or cities.

I also was thinking of moving the article to Greek Folk Dances, to reflect more accurately what the dances are (folk dance).

Re the extern link I just added (dancilla.com), it seems to be a collaborative site supported by a handful of independent folkdance communities in Europe. Many other ethnicities represented, too. No login required. (I'm not a member). Douglas Ray (talk) 14:53, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Zervodexios: a Cretan dance?

Since Zervodexios is only danced in Northern Greece (Thrace and Macedonia), why is it listed as a dance from Crete (in the far south of Greece), where it is quite certainly never danced? I think someone with more detailed knowledge of the dances should revise this article very thoroughly!89.212.50.177 (talk) 16:32, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

The dance in Crete is called Zervodexos not zervodexios - it is a dance that moves to the right and to the left. It was a typo and has been amended. 2001:8003:2E0B:2000:E474:8C26:3F2B:6B98 (talk) 23:59, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

FDF and HDF

I'm not a Wiki editor at all, but I noticed that the article mentions FDF and not HDF (which is a similar festival held in the Southeast USA that stands for Hellenic Dance Festival.) Thanks for commenting! It's great that you're thinking about contributing. Do you have source material on the HDF? The discussion of FDF in the article at the moment is problematic, because it is sourced solely from the FDF's website. If you're able to write something on the HDF based on reliable independent sources (books, journal articles, newspaper articles - a fuller explanation of what counts as a reliable source, here: WP:RS), that would be really helpful. Similarly if you have any thoughts on how to improve the rest of the article (which is currently not as good as it should be), that would be very helpful :). Furius (talk) 00:06, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
