Realisation that the opposition parties could form a government[edit]

"However, to the surprise of most observers, the other parties realised that if they banded together, they would have only one seat fewer than Fianna Fáil, and would be able to form a government with the support of at least seven independents."

Why was it a surprise that the parties realised their collective numerical ability to outvote FF in the new Dáil? Surely, if there was surprise, it would have been that such disparate political forces thought it worthwhile to collaborate? Harfarhs (talk) 22:15, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
