Death unsourced[edit]

So far the only places to say he's dead have been here, IMDb and now the British comedy guide (certainly not reliable enough to use as a source to confirm a death). Not one single reliable source can I find to corroborate his passing. This could all have started with someone putting it on Wikipedia and then it's all over the internet. If he has in fact passed then The Guardian and The Stage are the most likely publications to publish an obit for him at some point. Crisso (talk) 07:47, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Crisso:, can you please elaborate on why British Comedy Guide is not a reliable source? I don't see it blacklisted or on the list of deprecated sources. It isn't user generated, but rather compiled by a group of people who work in that industry. Additionally, Gordon Peters' death has been well documented on social media. There is no reason to doubt any of these reports, unless you have evidence to the contrary? Peters was a supporting actor with no stand out roles. A Guardian or Stage obituary is unlikely IMO. We shouldn't labour this. --Jkaharper (talk) 19:53, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In all the years I've used WP I don't believe I've ever seen the BCG used as a source for biographical data, so that's why I am dubious about it. I'm not familiar with it at all to be honest but it looks as though it's probably on a par with the professionally edited BFI database, which I've used as a source in the past but is far from infallible (note their entry for Don Marion: [1]). I still think it's sketchy at best using this one source to confirm a death when there don't appear to be any other "reliable" sources. I wont change it but hope you understand why we should be extra careful when updating whether someone is alive or not. Maybe his website can be updated to show this? He got a few write ups in local papers in recent years so hopefully they'll mention his passing. As far as Peters getting a full national press obit, the fact that he did have his own (albeit short lived) TV series would go in his favour for this (certainly for The Stage). We'll just have to wait and see. Crisso (talk) 19:38, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Only just discovered he did get an obit in The Stage after all. I think I'd given up checking for one by the beginning of September, but they finally came through on the 13th of that month. Crisso (talk) 19:08, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
