The expression "whole numbers" is a translation of the latin term "integer", meaning untouched, which is the formal and most accurate way of denoting the natural numbers and their negatives. 5.254.138.27 (talk) 11:13, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Principle plura[edit]

In the introduction to God Created the Integers, Hawking uses the expression principle plura when he refers to the importance of mathematical rigour as recognized by the Greeks.
