seems to be copied directly from vendor promotional materials[edit]

"glulam is the only engineered wood product that can be produced in curved shapes" is a false statement. The marketing-speak is strong here! Only a salesman could make the leap from "glued laminated timbers are easily available in custom curves" to "it's impossible to make a curved engineered wooden product any other way!". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.153.180.229 (talk) 17:14, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Timber rivet[edit]

Anybody got a picture of a timber rivet? 89.240.15.82 08:19, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. But there is a drawing of one in a book by Borg Madsen. Try Googling it. We don't use them much in Europe. Dendrotek 19:09, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Distinguish between North American and European terminology and standards[edit]

We should distinguish as I suggest above or alternatively there could be another Wiki article on European glulam. Anyone else got any thoughts? Dendrotek 19:06, 2 August 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dendrotek (talkcontribs)

On External links - direct commercial promotion?[edit]

On External links, Rosboro and Wiehag seem to be simply direct commercial promotions. Is this in accordance with Wikipedia ethics? If these are permitted to stay, others may be added.

Cross-laminated timber[edit]

For some reason CLT links to this page. I'm not sure why; CLT is a substancially different product, and is used to form panels as opposed to beams. Furthermore, CLT is not mentioned anywhere on the page. 188.222.37.44 (talk) 23:31, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cross-laminated timber - Suggestion[edit]

CLT has a close natural and technical affinity with glulam, and many of the same advantages, although as you say, it is manufactured in panel form. There are good examples of buildings and bridges with linear members in glulam and panels, decks and diaphragms in CLT. I may even find a few photos with my own copyright. In due course, both will be referenced in the same part of Eurocode 5. It uses similar/same adhesives and timber species. Generally, it does not use peeled veneers, but sliced or sawn layers. Historically, material very similar to CLT was laid up in aircraft (e.g. D H Mosquito) and in boats/ships, without the distinctions made in modern standards. I suggest we insert a short paragraph on CLT here and link to CLT as another article. I am willing to do it here, if people want, but not to start another article at present. PR assembly adhesives[edit]

Section at present says ″phenol-resorcinol adhesive in 1942.″ PRs were in use as assembly adhesives in Europe before that date.--Dendrotek 21:32, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CLT [Update][edit]

Since there is still no paragraph about CLT, I suggest that the link for CLT to this article shall be removed. The fact that CLT is produced using the same adhesives as glulam is for me not a sufficient reason to treat it in the same way. Unfortunately, my writing skills are not sufficent to start an article from scratch, but I think it's better if there is no Article about CLT than this link to glulam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.27.66.130 (talk) 08:18, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Don't agree for the reasons and suggestion for dealing with it, already stated above. Glulam elements are linear, CLT ones are planar, otherwise in the bigger picture, the technology is the same and CLT is certainly different to plywood made from rotary veneers. I may soon be able to implement at least a short fix. I will not use the word "shall" though! There is however a bigger problem with the whole Article in that many points need differentiating between North American terminology - and sometimes technology - and the same in Europe. We meet this right at the start where we wolud never dream of using the word "lamstock." Could be a separate Article to deal with the European Glulam. What do people wish? How would Antipodean Glulam fit in?! Could cite the ISO's, I suppose. Quite a big writing job. --Dendrotek 09:39, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Close-up image needed[edit]

All of the images look like dimensional stock (e.g. 2x4s). A close-up showing the nature of this product would be helpful. Badger151 --64.118.223.196 (talk) 12:53, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
