Move Geshe (woreda) to Gishe[edit]

Hello @Llywrch: i'm sugessting to move from Geshe (woreda) to Gishe. In the 2007 census on page 8 it says Gishe Wereda (Woreda). The 1994 census said Geshe Rabel Wereda. I (google book) searched using the term Geshe unrelated sources turn up [[1]], two sources about agriculture if i type Geshe woreda [[2]] & 2 sources about 1994 census if i type in Geshe Rabel [[3]].

You get the most results(reliable sources) by it's old name Gishe Rabel, also used in 1984 census [[4]] followed by Gishe[[5]]

Do you agree/disagree with the move? Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 00:59, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am opposed to changing these [slightly different] names unless you have a clear majority of usage out in the real world. It doesn't seem like there is a clear standard English spelling for this woreda. The objection is more towards having to make lots of edits to accommodate such article-title changes, and hope you haven't missed any. I would prefer you make a redirect with the alternative spelling (if you think that's even needed). Platonk (talk) 06:58, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Platonk: There is no agreed standard of spelling (romanizing) Amharic however most sources are using i instead of e. Going through the diffs i couldn't any discussion regarding the current spelling, probably due lack of engagement of editors. I don't think Amharic/Ethiopian name places should be decided by the first editor creating the article. What i'm arguing for is having the Amharic spelling mirror the spelling with the most sources, or at least editors should review it and vote on it. As I wrote elsewhere, many of these transliterations were simply the first I encountered & didn't know enough to do a proper job. Some were inexcusably archaic transliterations. (Here I'm guessing I copied the transliteration used by the Ethiopian Central Statistical Agency. I don't have immediate access to those files, so I could be wrong.) I appreciate being asked about these, but this is one matter I don't have a strong opinion about. Now replacing the usage "woreda" with "district" is one I do have a strong opinion about, & I wish the original term I had introduced had been kept. -- llywrch (talk) 16:30, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Llywrch: Okay so if i understood correctly you do not oppose the move from Geshe (woreda) to Gishe? Maybe you did got the current translation from CSA 2005 estimates [[6]], The 2007 census says Gishe Wereda
I'm def not requesting to change woreda to district, perhaps you are referring to the categories section? There was/is a discussion over at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ethiopia Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 17:59, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was referring to the category. Anyway, it's a decision I'm not interested in fighting. -- llywrch (talk) 19:48, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Platonk: If you're objection still stands, i propose to do the edits wherever they spell it with the e, i doubt there are many articles referring to this woreda. If you're still opposed we can also do a second opinion and resolve it that way. Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 23:53, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dawit S Gondaria: Go for it. As long as you do the cleanup, I don't mind the change. Platonk (talk) 05:44, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
