Whoever wrote this article on Girl From the North Country (Musical play) doesn't know how to use the word "reverend" properly. I think the writer means to say "minister." The word "reverend" should almost always have the word "the" in front of it and a name following it, like this: the Rev. Mr. Jones preached..." "Reverend" is an adjective, not a noun.
