Important Inforamtion on name[edit]

Gigo and Yoshitaka use the same kanji "義豪". Gigo (chinese reading) is his real name in Okinawa. In the Funakoshi familly, all sons' name begin with "Gi". Gichin, Gigo, Giei etc... Yoshitaka (japanese reading) was his nickname in Japan. --Veritasho 13:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason for using the term "karate-do" instead of the more common "karate"[edit]

Under the headings "Early years" and "Career" we use the rare term "karate-do"(空手道) instead of the more common term for the martial art form "karate" (空手). Is there a reason for that? I'm aware of different nuances of the two terms, but I consider the term "karate-do" as common knowledge, so I would expect the term to be explained when using it on Wikipedia.
