Why is the list of colleges in Bold face?

Some review

Hey, I removed most of the unneccesary stuff from the page. It still has many problems, so some advice:

  • Don't create "business directory". It is considered advertizing and it's not encyclopedic.
  • No point to give addresses of the companies, if the company has it's own wikipedia address, then the address should probably in there.
  • Don't create lists of stuff, most of these companies are not notable: discuss only things which are really notable and have their own articles in wikipedia.
  • Please check articles about other cities which have GA or FA status, and see how they are written and what they cover. For example Delhi. Suva 20:11, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I did some cleanup of sections. Added advert tag to the education section. Since there is not much written except that so other wikipedians can suggest a better presentation rather than an advert looking ads of a school or college. This article has a long way to go. thevikas (talk) 08:10, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Institute

Why was babu banarasi das institute deleted? Anurag pandey 001 (talk) 09:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the names of schools and colleges should either be removed or given there own separate entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spatone (talkcontribs) 14:50, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Mixture

Is a mixture of city and district. The relevant information about each must be moved to the corresponding article.--83.56.239.246 (talk) 18:43, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Erroneous Population

The population, at more than 3m is incorrect. That is the population for the district of Ghaziabad, not the city. Source cited is the Census of India... last census was 2001 and there is no later figure for the city on the Census site than 2001, which as I recall was about 830,000 (easily enough found). Would fix but do not have the time at the moment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.132.161.1 (talk) 17:44, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

What is up with the numbers in this article? All of the values over a thousand are grouped strangely: 22,47,434 and 5,81,886 for example. Is that last number supposed to be 581,886 or five million (some number of thousands that includes the digits 81) eight hundred and eighty-six? This pattern is consistent throughout the article.

27,03,933 22,47,434 4,83,630 15,30,081 12,05,397 9,40,469 18,55,009 9,80,938 6,62,402 3,18,536 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drummike (talkcontribs) 06:51, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

This is not the place to enquire about educational institutes. Please goto some educational forum of your interest. Shawrix (talk) 18:55, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Needs uber improvement

This article is not at all meeting the standards of a metropolitian city. This really needs some extreme improvement. I'll start work on this article as soon as i am done with my city. Shawrix (talk) 18:57, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect name pronunciation

The pronunciation of the name in the ogg file included in this article is incorrect. Whoever's saying it appears to a) have a non-native accent and b) is pronouncing it incorrectly as /ɡʰaːzɪaːbaːd̪/ instead of the correct /ɣaːzɪaːbaːd̪/. In other words, he is saying घाज़ियाबाद instead of ग़ाज़ियाबाद. --Hunnjazal (talk) 09:42, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Now removed so at least no one will get incorrect info --Hunnjazal (talk) 01:05, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Etymology

I have removed the following text from a section titled "Etymology":

Ghaziabad is a shortened form of its former name Ghazi-ud-din-nagar. It was named so after its founder, Vazir Ghazi ud-Din Khan Feroze Jung II, the then Prime Ministerof the Mughal Empire. The name was shortened to Ghaziabad after the opening of the railway.[1]

My rationale is that the citation is hopeless. It is linked to a GBooks snippet view that seems itself to have incorrect metadata as this work was in fact a 14-volume set, not all of which were the output of Atkinson and not all published in 1876. It is impossible to work out what is intended from the snippet and while, for example, archive.org does have some volumes in full view, I cannot spot the relevant one. - Sitush (talk) 15:25, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

History section

It is mentioned that Timur invaded Ghaziabad in AD 1313, but Timur was born only in 1336. Kindly correct this.

I removed the following from the History section:

Ghaziabad was founded by Vazir Ghazi ud-Din Khan Feroze Jung II, the then Prime Ministerof the Mughal Empire in the year 1740. [1]. Ghaziabad and surrounding areas have witnessed at least seven wars fought over the last millennium.[2]

My rationale for removal of the statement sourced to Atkinson is as per that in my just-posted message above. Regarding the second statement, which relies on a website that seems often not to function properly, I took a look at this archived copy. It does not support the statement because the relevant bit of the source makes no mention of the city - it specifically refers to "this region" and is published by Ghaziabad District, not Ghaziabad city. - Sitush (talk) 15:34, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

I removed the following:

Ghaziabad became an important Railway Junction, serving as the principal gateway to Delhi on the Calcutta-Delhi Great Trunk Line of the East Indian Railway Company. The other two lines that converged at Ghaziabad after they were opened later were those of the Sindh, Punjab and Delhi Railway (opened in 1870)[3] and Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway (opened in 1898)[4] . It thus assumed further significance as it served as a vital railway link between many major urban centres of the country, including Calcutta, Delhi, Lahore, Karachi, Lucknow and Multan.[5]

My rationale is that this is based on a fan club source (the IRFCA) and the only way that the conclusions drawn in our statement can be supported by it is by a using a large dose of original research - we should not draw conclusions from any source but rather should paraphrase them. - Sitush (talk) 15:40, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

I removed

It remained, along with Meerut, the principal commercial centre of the District during the latter half of the 19th century.[6]. It was also the headquarters of the Ghaziabad tehsil, and the seat of one the two Munsifis of the Meerut District.[7]. The municipality was set up in 1868. [8]

As with the Atkinson source previously referred to, these rely on poor GBooks metadata: the works are multi-volume and without more information (perhaps from the non-visible title pages) it is impossible to verify properly. - Sitush 15:44, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Sitush would kindly take the pains in writing down these two parts, viz. etymology and history, from whatever reliable sources he can find. We can't leave an article on a city without its history or etymology.Ruderow (talk) 07:51, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
