"In late March 1944, Admiral Karl Dönitz and four other admirals took part in a trial of U-794."
I have never served in any navy, but this sentence looks rather dubious to me. I'm pretty sure that admirals don't 'take part' in trials. They observe them. They might have been on board, but this sentence gives the impression that Dönitz and the others were toiling away like the rest of the crew. I very much doubt it.
