Place name links[edit]

There are many place names in this article which could have links. Also, some place names are uncertain. Is there a White Oak, Alabama? --DThomsen8 (talk) 21:38, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"White Oak" is the name of the station where the Louisiana Pacific board mill is located, which is the terminus of the line. One of the GSWR predecessor railroads probably created the location to distinguish it from the equidistant towns of Eufaula and Clayton. Either way the Surface Transportation Board mentions it as a specific location, as does the railroad itself. So even though it is not physically a town it is a station on the railroad and replacing the name with "Clayton" or "Eufaula" or anything else would be inaccurate. --FrankieG123 (talk) 22:54, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article cleanup/reconstruction[edit]

This article has a lot of good information but it is somewhat monolithic. Also there are no in-line citations whatsoever and at least one of the reference links is/was dead. --FrankieG123 (talk) 23:00, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I finished overhauling this article, there are about two dozen references and plenty of in-line citations. Some information had to be removed since it was unsourced and not verifiable. Someone needs to write a history of the "O" line between Ochille and Americus pre-NS, because I was drawing blanks while searching. All I could find is that part of the line was built by the "Bunea Vista and Ellamville Railroad" in the late 1880s. Also a description of the passenger excursion trains that used to operate between Smithville and Eufaula as well as Columbus and Greenville would be nice to have. Photos would be a definite plus, but are not essential. --FrankieG123 (talk) 19:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
